Apart of Me is a multi-award-winning therapeutic service designed to guide young people through grief. Many families are unable to access traditional counselling support or find it difficult to address death, grief and the complicated emotions that come with loss. Our aim is to support them in navigating what they are going through and offer hope for the future.
We are a nonprofit organisation and provide the app for free to bereaved young people around the world. We rely entirely on the incredible generosity of volunteers and donors to enable us to keep helping those in need.
Amazing, obviously! To be a little more specific, volunteering with us will give you the chance to play an active role in an innovative and ambitious tech charity. You will be joining a rapidly expanding team of international volunteers, who all bring something different and valuable to Apart of Me.
It is a great opportunity to gain experience in the charity sector and develop your skills by working with and learning from your fellow volunteers. We encourage a flexible, independent way of working, and all of our roles are completely remote. This means you will be able to make a real impact from wherever you are in the world.
Perhaps most importantly, you will be making a difference to the lives of young people who have lost someone they love. There’s no feeling quite like the one you get from knowing you are helping people who really need your help.
The main requirements for volunteering with Apart of Me are a time commitment of around three hours a week minimum and a positive, can-do attitude. As we rely so heavily on volunteers, we need dedicated people who are really invested in the cause.
We are a large group working remotely so it is important that you are a team player who is able to keep up with various communications and projects. Previous experience of working for a charity, along with a personal affinity to child bereavement and mental health, are a bonus but not essential.
We totally understand that not everyone is able to commit to become one of our volunteers. Don't worry - there are still many other ways you can get involved!
We’re working on a new feature called (working title) “Heart Notes”. The idea is that a player can choose from a database of pre-prepared heart notes that they then leave within the game for another player to find. The notes will be messages of support, solidarity, compassion. If you have 30min to spare: write a note sharing your bereavement experience, email it to us and we will include it in the game.
Our game is free and for everyone, but we can always do better. Download it and give it a play - how can we improve? What were your initial impressions and where did you get stuck or frustrated? Email us and let us know … and if you love the game (which we hope you will) you can really help young bereaved people find us by leaving a review on the App Store or Google Play.
Do you have professional consultancy experience in one of the following areas: game architecture review, multiplayer implementation, in-game notifications or web marketing analytics. If you do, and you are willing to give our organisation the benefit of your knowledge, we will definitely benefit from it! Get in touch .
